Alecia Marion Hughes (née Crosby) was born on August 5, 1946, in Liberty City, New York. At the age of 15, she began a physical and romantic relationship with an older high school jock, Richard Hughes. One month into their relationship, Alecia discovers she is pregnant with their first child, a girl, and the pair ultimately decide to marry. Alecia gives birth to their firstborn, Logan, days after their wedding in July 1961. Eight years later, in 1969, she once again gives birth to another daughter, Donna. In the hopes of having a son to help carry on his legacy, Richard insists on having a third child; however, much to his dismay, Alecia gives birth to their third daughter, Jennifer, in 1972.
Following the birth of Jennifer, Alecia and Richard enjoy several more years together, only to be rocked by tragedy in 1993, when Richard is tragically killed in a car accident, the death sending Alecia into a deep depression, secretly surrounded by alcohol. Following her husband’s death, Alecia moved to London to join her daughter Donna and her husband, David Roberts. Both Alecia and Donna stay away from Liberty City until their return in 2010.
Character history
In early 2010, Alecia returns to Liberty City with her daughter Donna, revealing she has sold her stocks and shares to Donna as well as recovered secret stocks, putting Donna in charge of the hotel operations, much to the dismay of her two estranged daughters, Logan and Jennifer. During a meeting at Liberty City Hotel, Donna and Alecia vaguely discuss the shares and their purpose of being in Liberty City. When Logan begins to have secret drinks at the hotel bar, Donna suspects that Alecia is once again off the wagon and has begun drinking again.
In December 2010, Alecia offers Cristina Willis fifty percent ownership shares of Liberty City Hotel, a deal that Cristina ultimately turns down. By September of the following year, Alecia’s drinking begins to interfere with her family, and when she does not attend her grandson’s funeral, she is confronted by long-time associate Susan Smithson about her choices. Ultimately, Alecia sells her stock interest in Liberty City Hotel to Cristina Willis, giving up her control of the hotel. Feeling like an outcast to her family, Alecia ultimately seeks solace with her youngest grandson, Theo, and attempts to begin rebuilding her life as a sober living person.
